Story: Car Rescue by Shabnam M

“It is so HOT!” said Asiya, wiping her forehead. “We need Auto Cool.”

“Don’t worry, Asiya” said Dad. “We are getting a new car soon. This car will be G-O-N-E!”

Mom was trying to keep baby Amina cool, waving her hand over Amina as a fan, but Mom was sweating herself.

“Can we please open the window, Mom? Please?”

“No, Asiya”, said Mom. “The noise will wake Amina, and she will start crying. Then, we’ll all be frustrated.”

“I need to pull over” said Dad, as he went onto the side of the road, near a dusty street with small houses. “I think the car has broken down!”

“We need help from one of those houses” said Mom, pointing at the neat little houses lining the road. “I’ll have to stay here and take care of Amina.”

“Asiya and I will go” said Dad. “You two can stay here.”

Asiya and Dad rang the doorbell of a white house with a blue roof. A man in a mechanic suit answered. “Hello?”

“Hello, my name is Ali and this is my daughter Asiya. Our car has broken down over there” Dad said.

“You’ve come to the right place!” said the man. “I’m John Spokes, a car mechanic.”

“My luck!” said Dad. Dad and Asiya led John to the car.

“Hmm…” said John. “Seems like something is stuck in one of the pipes. You’re lucky you had enough time to pull over. It would be horrible if you were stuck in the middle of the road.”

John took his tow-truck and drove the family’s car over to his office. John also gave the family a ride home.

Alhamdulillah they have a new car now.

Poems

Here are some spring poems to enjoy.

In the Garden

I open the white gate
I know this is going to be great

I step into roses of every color
A few feet away, beautiful tulips

I step through daisies
Then through the daffodils

Who knew there were so much secrets
To a flower garden?

Spring is a Wonderful Thing

Oh spring is wonderful thing
The farmers grow crops
The hibernation stops
Oh spring is a wonderful thing

Spring is a wonderful thing
The flowers grow
There is no more snow
Spring is a wonderful thing

Make a Food Stand by Shabnam M.

Want to earn some extra money? Use this idea and start cooking! Answer the questions to yourself.

What is this stand going to be made of?
-cardboard boxes
-a table and chairs
-whatever you can find that will work

Make sure your stand supplies are strong. Make sure that they can carry many things. Make sure that it won't fall over in a strong gust of wind. If you want a cardboard box to stay on the ground, put some large rocks into the box.

What am I going to sell?
-drinks
-snacks
-deserts
-recipes from MAG

You can mix two different drinks together to make up a cool new drink. Make up a name for your new drink! You can sell crackers, cookies, and fruits. Make sure you have all the food behind your stand so you can give your customers your food right away.

How should I price it?
-$0.25 for a drink or snack
-$0.50 for a drink or snack
-$1.00 for a drink or snack

Make sure your prices aren't too low, but don't make them too high either. For a cup of a drink, price it from $0.25 to $1.00. If you are selling a snack, $0.50 to $3.00 is a good price.

Will I have sales, membership cards, or other extras?

If you start getting many customers, you can start a membership program. People can come and become a member to your stand. You can do 10% off sales, half-price sales, and buy one get free sales.

NOW GET TOGETHER WITH SOME FRIENDS, CHOOSE A SPOT, AND START SELLING!

Don't forget to make a name for your stand!

Story: The Lost Coloring Set by Shabnam M.

“Where is my coloring set?” asked 9-year-old Iman. It was not in the trunk of the car. It wasn’t inside the car either. “Oh no!” said her mom. “10 dollars for nothing.”

“I must have left it in the store!” said Iman, worriedly. She ran to the store’s entrance. She went inside so fast that she nearly bumped into a toddler!

She went to the cashier and asked, “Have you seen a red coloring set?”

The cashier thought, “Hmm… I saw one, but I don’t know where it is!”

“Oh no!” pouted Iman. Then she thought about what really could have happened.

“Someone stole it!” Iman shouted. “ Do you have any security cameras?”

“Yes, there is one right there” the cashier pointed out.

“Show me the video” said Iman. The cashier closed down and took her to the office.

The cashier, named Zahrah, went onto a computer and typed a code. Then the videos came up.

Zahrah clicked on the one that was near her cash register. Iman saw her coloring set! She just wanted to reach it!

When they played the rest of the video, Iman saw a jumble of people’s feet, and it was gone.

“I saw no hands reaching for it” said Iman.

“So it must have been pushed underneath my table!” said Zahrah.

Iman and Zahrah rushed back to the cash register and looked underneath.

There it was! The coloring set was safe!

Survive a Stormy Day by Shabnam M.

Spring is a beautiful season, but it can also bend your feelings. Here's what to do on a rainy day.

1. Pray to Allah

If the power is out, and nothing is happening, the best thing you can do is pray to Allah. Sit in silence, say a dua, and think about Allah.

2. Grab books and a flashlight.

Why would we need books and a flashlight? Can't we watch TV with the lamp light on? No! Just in case the power goes off, you can still have light. And books are entertaining... plus they don't use electricity!

3. Make a nice, hot cup of chocolate milk.

If you have power or a gas stove, warm up some chocolate milk in a mug (ask an adult for help!). Bring it with you when you read. You can also add sugar, peanut butter or any other topping that you like.

4. Get a warm, fuzzy blanket.

You can even get a pillow. Just make yourself as comfortable as you can. You'll feel much better after the storm is over. So sit down with a pillow and blanket, read books and sip warm chocolate milk. It makes a stormy day much better!
