Koala on the Roof by Shabnam M.

"There's a koala on the roof!" I shouted. It was a cute, gray animal looking scared. I wonder how it got there? Don't koala's live in Australia?

My brother Khalid came running. "What do koala's eat?" he asked. "Oh yeah" I said. "Eucalyptus leaves! Smart thinking, Khalid."

"Hmm..." Where in the world would I find eucalyptus? Certainly not in the kitchen.

Mom was cooking there, so I couldn't go rummaging around.

So I decided tp go to the Nature Center nearby. I snapped on my helmet and "Woosh!", my bike was on the way!

When I got there, I panted, "I need eucalyptus!"

"Why" asked the person there. I answered, "Because there's a koala on the roof!"

"I don't believe you" said the secretary. The secretary grabbed some eucalyptus leaves and followed me with his bike.

When I got home, I showed him the koala. "Oh man" he said. "It's from the zoo. We better call the zoo officials right away!" He stepped inside to call the zoo.

I could tell the koala was sniffing. He got up and stepped. One, two, three steps then he stopped. One, two, three, stop. One, two, three, stop.

He went very slowly down the roof. I don't blame him; I would too.

Then he suddenly munched a eucalyptus leaf and I grabbed him down.

The zoo officials came in a second. The secretary got on his bike and went back to the Nature Center. I handed the official the koala. "Thanks" he said.

That was my koala rescue!
