Bothering Brothers by Shabnam M.

Is your brother bothering you? If you read this and do what this says, insha-allah your brother will be better toward you.

Step 1- Leave him alone.
If you leave him alone, he will leave you alone.

Step 2- Teach him something
The best thing to do is teach him something! You can teach him a game, some math problems, or more. You may teach him a du'a or a surah to recite. If you just want to play school, that’s fine! Then you both can have some fun without getting in each other’s way.

Step 3- Stay away from each other
Lock yourself up in your room. Read something. Play something. Do anything you can! Now your brother cannot bother you.

Step 4- Never, ever bother him back
If you do, he’ll be more tempted to bother you. And you might end up getting in trouble. So I’ll repeat, never, ever bother him back.

Step 5- Don’t show your feelings.
If you show how you feel when he bothers you, change your mind! If you show him your feelings, you might get bothered more. You don’t want that!

Step 6- Be a kind sister!
There is a golden rule, Treat others how you want to be treated. You can treat your brother nicely, and maybe, so will he! If your brother is bothering you, does he want you to bother him back?

After you try these things, at least one thing will work. Lots of people have brothers, some don’t. Allah gave you a brother, so let us thank Allah for that.

Mostly A’s-Best Friend
You’re doing your best to be a friend, and you are one! If you make many friends, they’ll count on you to comfort them in hard times.
Mostly B’s-Trying your best
Even though you’re trying you’re best, a little more effort will put you in harmony. Next time you see someone bullying someone else, stand up for the person being bullied.
Mostly C’s- Not so Nice
If you really think about it, don't you think you are a little unkind? Think about the friends you have. Did they push you to be mean? If so, you should find some new friends. You don’t want to have friends who make you do bad things! If it’s not your friends, then you should practice being nice to people. Use your manners and say please and thank you, and you’ll be at the top of the mountain!

When You're the One Left Out by Shabnam M.

Everyone wanted to play with you when you didn’t want them to. Now, no one asks you to join in. What happened here? If it’s happening to you, you’re not alone. Many girls go through it. And once in a while, you too will get left out. Here’s what to do when you’re the one left out.

Don’t stick inside, stick out!
If you go into yourself, no one will ask to play. So stick out! While you’re at your art club, draw something great so you’ll be noticed by your club leader. Then your club leader will notify the club members. Don’t stick in, stick out!

Be a friend
When you’re left out, try to make new friends! Just ask someone, “Can I play with you?” You may be starting a great friendship!

Play your own game
Make up a game, and let others join in! They might not leave you alone anymore, since you just made up a great new game.

Stay cool
Don’t feel stressed out! Stay calm. Take a few breaths. Drink some fresh water. Close your eyes for 15 seconds and think of everything good that will happen that day. Make a salat, or a du'a. You will see that salat makes your mind calm.

Be happy!
If you smile and be happy, it might make the situation a little bit lighter. Don’t be afraid to smile at anyone and everyone! This is exactly what Rasulallah used to do.

If you can tell us your experience of being left out, great! Send it to us!

Swans by Shabnam M.

Just as many amazing creatures created by Allah, swans are amazing too. Their long necks and strange beaks are only part of these birds. There’s more you need to learn…

What do they look like?
Swans are usually white, but one, the black swan, is black. The sock-neck swan has a black neck, which makes it look like a sock is on its neck. Swans have long necks.

Where do they live?
Swans live on every continent except Antarctica. They live in ponds, lakes and swamps. Their nests can be up to 12 feet long! They make their nests out of weeds and bulrushes.

What do they eat?
Swans eat mostly underwater weeds. That’s why they have long necks, to dive their heads right into the water with their bodies afloat. Some swans are also known to eat meat, and they eat small things like bugs and frogs.

What are their children like?
Swan eggs are about 2 inches long. They can be the colors blue, white, gray or green. The babies are called cygnets [sihg-nets]. They don’t have feathers, but their bodies are covered with soft, gray down.

What are some interesting facts?
-Swans have about 25,000 feathers.
-The heaviest bird was a mute swan, who was 50 pounds.
-The swan has the third longest wing span, at 10 feet.
-Even though most birds leave their partners in a year, swans are mates for life.
-Swans were captured to be royalty’s pets!
-Cygnets were killed for their soft down so they could put the down in blankets.
That's very sad! ;(

The Water Cycle by Shabnam M.

It’s time you learned more about the water cycle. The water cycle is how our rain falls, collects, evaporates, and condenses. Then it starts all over again! No wonder, Allah thought of recycling long before our engineers started to talk about saving the planet!

Precipitation
Precipitation is how water falls from the clouds to the ground. It mostly falls in rain. But it also falls in snow, sleet and hail.

Collection
Collection is how water is gathered in lakes, rivers, oceans, and other bodies of water. But most of it absorbs into the ground.

Evaporation
Some water from bodies of water evaporates and most of the water from the ground evaporates. Evaporation means that water goes back up into the air in an invisible gas called vapor.

Condensation
Condensation is how clouds are made! After there is a rain, you’ll see condensation on your window. Condensation is when vapor turns back to water and it rains all over again!

The 3 Stages of Water
Water is the only substance in the world that can be a gas, liquid and solid. The gas, you learned, is water vapor. The liquid is just plain water, and the solid is ice.

Now you know more about the water cycle!
