How to Survive Middle School by Shabnam M.
Maybe your a 4th grader going into 5th grade. Or a 5th grader going into 6th grade. Or maybe a 6th grader going into seventh grade. In different locations, it depends when you start middle school/ junior high. But we all have something in common... we're starting a whole new school.
In middle school you have to juggle so many things... your schedule, your locker, new classmates, new teachers, homework, changing classes, and more. So, as you can see, middle school can be quite challenging.
Follow these tips and middle school won't seem so scary any more!
1) Know Your Schedule
Your schedule is one of the most important things of middle school. It tells you what classes you have, when they are, where they are, and who teaches them. Your school will probably provide you with one. If you get one without all the information you need, make your own. Keep it with you at all times. Be sure to memorize it before school starts!
2) Get Organized
In middle school, you'll be going to so many different places that it will be hard to keep track of all of your stuff! Use a 3-ring binder to keep your notebooks, folders, and papers in. Use a pencil pouch to carry your pencils, pens, highlighters, and other supplies. For more tips on organization at school, read the article from the September 2007 issue.
3) Make some New Friends
Chances are that there will be many kids you do not know that will be attending your middle school. Take advantage of it and make some good new friends! Be sure to have friends that are nice to you, they stand by you, they spend time with you, and they respect your values. Remember to be confident about yourself!
4) Get to Know your Teachers
Many kids are scared of their teachers! You can avoid this by going up to every one of your teachers on the first day and saying hello. The teacher will instantly know that you are confident and ready to learn, and you migsht even become their favorite student! For more tips on impressing teachers, read the article from the August 2007 issue.
5) Find a Map
Your middle school might be a lot bigger than your elementary school, so it is important to find a map! If the school doesn't already give you one, go to the main office and ask for a map of the school before school starts. Then carefully go over your map, labeling your classes with different colored pens. Then plan out walkways which you will take to get from locker to class, class to class.
Insha-allah, you will surely survive middle school, because you are a Muslim and you believe in Allah!

Learn a Dua
All of us have hard times. All of us have had problems or distress. This dua is for reciting during those difficult times.
Anni massaniya-d dhurru wa anta arhamu-r rahimin
Surely distress has touched me, and You are the most Merciful of the merciful ones.
(Al-Anbiya 21:83)
This dua was made by prophet Ayyub (A). He had a good family, wealth, and health. One day he became sick and lost all his wealth. People went away from him as he became even more sick. After that, all his children died.
Ayyub (A) never complained about his hard times. He only prayed to Allah. He never asked Allah (swt) to remove his sickness. Ayyub (A) left it up to Allah (swt) to make the decision.
Soon, Allah (swt) answered Ayyub (A) prayer. Allah removed his difficulty and gave Ayyub (A) health and wealth once again. His family was much happier, and he had more children.
Allah (swt) has the power to do anything, including removing your stress. With Allah's help, soon your hardship will disappear! |
