Muslim American Girls Magazine
Muslim American Girls MAGazine is an online magazine for Muslim girls growing up in America, by Muslim girls growing up in America.
Muslim American Girls is for Muslim girls in the USA and Canada, who are 8-16 years old.
MAGazine is to help Muslim girls feel that they are not alone in this world... that many other girls just like them are going through the same things as they are. MAGazine is for Muslim girls to let out their creative side and become Muslim women leaders of the future.
The editor of MAGazine is Shabnam M., a 12-year-old Muslim American Girl from Minnesota. |
The History of MAG
Shabnam M. was 10 years old when she was reading the September 2005 issue of American Girl magazine. In the true story section, there was a Jewish girl who had started her own magazine for Jewish girls.
Shabnam M. was very impressed. She had the exact same interests as the editor of Yaldah magazine, the magazine for Jewish girls.
Then Shabnam M. thought, Why isn't there a magazine for Muslim girls?
The search began. Shabnam M., surfed the Internet trying to find a publication that was geared towards Muslim girls like her. She found none. Yes, it's true... nothing!
Then she thought, Why don't I make my own magazine?
Of course, with the big dreams of a 10-year old, she thought she could make a glossy-paged magazine that people could subscribe to.
She talked to her dad, who is a writer of Islamic books, and asked if she could start a magazine.
He said, "Of course! You should make it an online magazine."
All of Shabnam's hopes were dashed. She thought about it some more, and then she decided it was a really great idea!
Then MAG was born. Since June 2006, Shabnam M. has been publishing issues for Muslim American Girls. She is always looking for articles, so send them to muslimag@gmail.com. |

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------As-Salam-alaikum
I am completely impressed with your magazine! This takes a lot of work and I'm sure you have homework as well. I am a teacher and writer in southern Ohio. I will see what I can do to get some articles, poetry, stories, etc. from Muslim girls in my area. I know that you want this magazine to be for Muslim girls by Muslim girls, but would you consider entries from girls who are interested in Islam and respect it? I can think of a few middle schoolers who would fit that description. I won't say anything to them unless I get the okay from you. In the meantime, I will talk to some girls at the mosque. We also have a full time Islamic school in town which might have some interested students.
Sincerely,
-Emily S.

Reviews of MAG on other Websites
Here are some of the reviews people gave on MAG on different websites:

Muslim American Girls Magazine
I have mentioned Muslim Girl Magazine on this blog a few times before. Just the other day, I came across another market catering to Muslim girls: Muslim American Girls Magazine. This appears to be a web venture (not a print magazine), and the neat thing is that the editor is a 12 year old girl from Minnesota who started the website when she was just ten.
Masha'Allah, it is wonderful to see a young Muslim writer putting so much effort into a project like this. It really takes a lot of effort to maintain a quality site like MAG.

A Magazine by a Muslim girl for Muslim girls
Muslim American Girls Magazine, founded by a 12 year-old Muslim girl from Minnesota; Shabnam M. Mashaallah! I had thought of creating a Muslim children’s magazine for a while, but it still hasn’t materialized! Talk about achieving your dreams through action!
I stumbled upon it from Amel’s wonderful blog for Muslim writers, and both N and H seem to be interested in submitting something to it. |
